King to be awarded World Food Prize

His Majesty the King will be awarded the World Food Prize for his
tireless
efforts to
secure
food supplies for the world’s
needy
, the US Embassy has said.
The award will be presented to His Majesty on Monday at Chitralada Palace by former Iowa governor Robert Ray who represents the World Food Prize Foundation.
The King will be the first Southeast Asian leader to receive the award which is a special honour
reserved
for heads of state and international leaders who have made great
contributions
to feeding people and
enhancing
human life, the statement said.
‘‘[The King] has
displayed
an
unwavering dedication
to the well being of his
subjects
, and a deep concern that they have
sufficient
food and proper
nutrition
,’’ World Food Prize Foundation President Kenneth Quinn is
quoted
on the foundation’s website as saying.
‘‘His Majesty’s
commitment
to his subjects has been
reflected
in the more than 2,000 royal projects he has established throughout the kingdom.’’
The World Food Prize
recognises
contributions in any field involved in world food supply.
The prize seeks to call attention to what has been done to improve the world food supply and what can be accomplished in the future and is sponsored by US businessman and
