The King visits his sister

November 14, 2007

His Majesty the King returned to Siriraj Hospital last evening, but this time as a visitor not a patient. The patient, of course, was his elder sister Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana. The story will tell you about her condition and also about the King's own recent 25-day stay  in the hospital. Notice that the story includes one detail that everyone seems to want to know: what His Majesty wore.

King visits Princess Galyani

hmvisitPhoto: His Majesty the King arrives at Siriraj Hospital last night to visit his elder sister, Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, who is being treated there. The Princess has been diagnosed with abdominal cancer and recently suffered a blood clot in her brain.

His Majesty the King visited his elder sister Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana at Siriraj Hospital from 8.20pm last night.

Happy crowds saw the King wearing a green jacket, a pink shirt and black trousers. He was moving quickly with a walker and waving happily to the crowds. Princess Galyani has been hospitalised since June for abdominal cancer and was diagnosed with extensive brain damage due to clogged cerebral blood vessels late last month.

His Majesty was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on Oct 13 due to insufficient blood supply to part of his brain, causing severe weakness on the right side of his body. However, doctors cured him of his ailments and he left the hospital on Nov 7 after a 25-day stay.

Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko extended a message of best wishes to the King.

‘‘We are now much relieved to learn that your hospitalisation is successfully over, and continue to wish you a smooth recovery,’’ they said in the message from Tokyo.
